TARA HANDKNITS
The Tara Collection is inspired by the beauty and the magic of the garden. Flowers, fruits and dragonflies are the images in these playful and romantic handknits.
This collection has been designed by Andrea and Gayle Shackleton of Hot Knots, in collaboration with ACP (Association of Craft Products). ACP is a non-profit cooperative committed to creating job opportunities for low income Nepali Artisans.
The sweaters are knit by hand using 100% handspun merino wool, richly dyed in the palette of nature. These intricate handknits are made by the talented knitters of ACP.
The Shackleton sisters have been working in collaboration with this cooperative since 1991. Over seven years ACP has grown and now owns its workshops and studios. ACP extends many benefits to its members, some of which are educational scholarships, women's health and counseling, a fair price shop and retirement benefits. We are proud to say that ACP dyes all of the yarn for Tara Sweaters with new technology that is clean and non-polluting.
Named for the Nepali goddess of compassion, Tara represents the ever expending collaboration between ACP and the Shackelton sisters. Like the garden that inspires us, with love, respect and creative incredible things grow.
