Summer events at The Common Ground are more popular than ever, and there is no surprise as to why. The Common Ground at Rotary Park has kicked off its line of summer series this year, including Stadtmuller’s Wednesdays in the Park, Family Fridays Story Time and More, Movies Under the Stars, Full Moon Labyrinth Walks, Gardening in the Park, and Yoga in the Park. The summer series provide a wide variety of free events for people of all ages and interests.

This past Friday, July 7th, The Common Ground welcomed more than 400 people who enjoyed stories shared by guest reader, Barbara Brocco, at Family Fridays Story Time and More. Story time was followed by the hilarious Toby the Clown. Afterward, the children participated in decorating large blankets that they will be able to sit on together at the Family Fridays that will follow. The upcoming Family Fridays, on July 14th at 6:30pm, will include special guest readers from Sayville Library and a fun-filled performance of “Rappin’ with Mother Goose”, presented by Airport Playhouse.

Stadtmuller’s Wednesdays in the Park continues to be a popular summer series packed with fine musical and theatrical performances. The upcoming performance on July 12th features Quattrophonium Saxophone Quartet at 8:00pm. The audience will be sure to enjoy an evening of fine music under the stars.

The Movies Under the Stars series is more popular than ever and includes almost twice as many movies as last year. Last week, families had a good laugh watching Herbie Fully Loaded and eagerly await the showing of Parent Trap Thursday July 13th at 8:30pm.

The Full Moon Labyrinth Walks are also growing in popularity at The Common Ground. Many people participate in a guided moonlit labyrinth walk during the full moon from May through October. Several people travel from distant towns to participate in this unique and peaceful event. The next Full Moon Labyrinth Walk takes place July 10th. Gathering begins at 8:00pm.

Gardening in the Park is a fun way that community members meet and enjoy themselves as they help tend the beautiful gardens at The Common Ground on the first and third Saturdays of the month at 10:30am. Sayville’s own Purple Lady, Master Gardener Nancy Angermaier, provides instruction to all who attend and encourage adults and children to participate in this fun community event.

The first session of Yoga in the Park, which ran from May through June was also more popular than ever. Participants of all ages and skill levels enjoyed the classes, provided by Inner Light Yoga Center, with instructor Angela Benvenuto. The second five week session begins August 25th and continues through September 24th from 8:00-9:30am on Sunday mornings.

Summer is indeed in full swing at The Common Ground at Rotary Park. The fun-filled summer series are bringing people together with a large variety of free quality events for all ages.

The Common Ground at Rotary Park is located between Candee Avenue and Gillette Avenue, just south of Main Street, in Sayville.
