Recently, Sayville Fire Department Cadet/Explorer Post 311 spent a very hot day at Sayville’s Summerfest teaching fire safety to children.

The kids were brought into the safety house, which is a trailer set up with a bedroom, family room and kitchen.

First, they discussed what to do in the event of a house fire, then the room began to fill with simulated smoke from a fog machine as the smoke detector sounded.

The children did what they were taught…they learned to “stay low and go” and to “get out and stay out”.

Everyone went home with a packet filled with safety information for the family.

The Explorer troop did a great job at getting important fire safety information out to the kids.

Visit the Sayville Fire Department’s website at www.sayvillefd.org for lots of safety information.
