The annual judged African Violet Show and Sale, sponsored by the Sweet Water African Violet Society, was held at the West Sayville Fire Department Hall, March 29th and 30th. The theme for the 33rd Annual Show and Plant Show was 'Violets Tour Long Island'.

The show was divided in two divisions, Horticulture and Design.

The Horticulture exhibits included plants of African violets and other members of the extremely varied plant family Gesneriaceae.

The Design classes were based on themes suggested by our show title. There were different design classes including interpretive flower arrangements, designs using entire African violet plants and several types of miniature garden featuring African violets.

Our main purpose in having a show was to give more people a closer look at the beauty and amazing variety of African violets. Our show was judged by nine visiting judges, all of whom are certified by the African Violet Society of America. The entries were judged according to a set AVSA scale of points.
