American Legion's Smith-Wever Post #651 awarded certificates to veterans residing at Petite Fleur Nursing Home in Sayville on May 10, 2008.

Joseph DiGiovani, Hugo Cercaione, Frank Benemio, Joseph Stefko and Anthony Jordan were given Veteran plaques, American Legion Medals and Certificates of Appreciation.

Gary Vertichio from the Smith-Wever Post #651 thanked the group for their services and handed out the certificates in an effort to show that the veterans in nursing homes were not forgotten. "On behalf of the Town of Islip, we would like to thank you," said Councilman Bodkin. Captain Marcella also thanked the group present for their service and sacrifice and acknowledged that "because of you I'm able to do what I do today."
